Help Customers Recognize Your Calls with Branded Caller ID

The FCC reports that U.S. consumers received just over 4.1 billion robocalls in June 2024. In that environment, every business call begins with a question: Can the recipient trust who is calling?

When customers, prospects, and partners see an unfamiliar number, many simply do not answer. Spam labels, spoofing, and fraud have made that caution understandable—but it also means legitimate, important calls can be ignored before the conversation has a chance to begin.

For organizations that depend on voice communication, unanswered calls create real friction. Whether it is sales outreach, customer support, appointment coordination, healthcare, financial services, or field operations, a missed connection can mean a missed opportunity.

Branded Caller ID helps make that first impression clearer by showing recipients who is calling before they pick up.

Why Branded Caller ID Matters

Branded Caller ID, or BCID, helps legitimate business calls become more recognizable by providing approved business identity information for display on supported mobile networks and devices.

Instead of presenting only a phone number, a supported branded calling experience can display information such as your business name, logo, phone number, or verified-business designation. What appears on the recipient’s screen depends on their carrier, phone model, software, and enabled calling services.

That additional context can help recipients understand who is calling before they decide whether to answer.

For businesses, Branded Caller ID creates a more professional calling experience while reinforcing brand recognition at one of the most important moments in a customer interaction.

Branded Caller ID can help organizations:

  • Build recognition with customers and prospects
  • Improve the visibility of legitimate business calls
  • Support stronger call-answering performance
  • Reinforce brand consistency across customer touchpoints
  • Help distinguish important business calls from unfamiliar or suspicious calls
  • Give employees a more professional business identity when making outbound calls

What Is Branded Caller ID?

Branded Caller ID is a calling identity service that submits approved business information for presentation on supported terminating networks and mobile devices.

Depending on the recipient’s carrier, handset, network, software, and available branded-calling capabilities, an incoming call may display your company’s name, logo, phone number, or a verified-business indicator. Many newer phones support these features by default when the carrier service is available, while older devices may not support or display them.

The result is a more informative incoming-call experience that gives recipients greater context before they answer.

The screenshots below show an example Threshold Communications call. Once your organization is onboarded, eligible supported calls can display your own company name and logo rather than Threshold Communications’ identity.

Example: This Threshold Communications call shows how Branded Caller ID can present a business identity on supported devices, helping recipients recognize who is calling before they answer.

That recognizable identity can also help establish a more consistent customer experience from the initial ring through the conversation itself.

This is a Threshold Communications example. After enrollment, your own approved business name and logo can appear for eligible calls on supported devices and networks.

A Straightforward Onboarding Process

Implementing Branded Caller ID does not need to be complicated. Threshold Communications works with customers throughout the enrollment, verification, and provisioning process.

The onboarding process typically includes:

  1. Review your business numbers
    • We identify the phone numbers your organization wants to enroll and review their eligibility for branded calling.
  2. Collect your brand information
    • Your organization provides the business identity information required for enrollment, such as your business name, logo, and other supporting information.
  3. Verification and provisioning
    • Your information is submitted through the appropriate verification and provisioning process so eligible numbers can be associated with your approved business identity.
  4. Test and support the service
    • After activation, Threshold can help review the calling experience and provide ongoing support as numbers, branding, or business requirements change.

Branded Caller ID display depends on factors including the terminating carrier, recipient device, device software, enabled services, network support, business verification, number authorization, calling practices, and reputation. Newer phones may have compatible calling features enabled by default, while older phones may not have the same capabilities. Display therefore cannot be guaranteed on every call or device.

Even when a recipient’s phone does not display the logo, business name, or verified-business indicator, the call itself can still be signed with a certificate end-to-end between your originating service and a supported terminating carrier network. In other words, the recipient may not see the branded calling elements, but certificate-based call signing can still help establish the call’s identity across supported carrier networks. The objective remains simple: help legitimate business calls be more easily recognized wherever the receiving network and device support the experience.

Put Your Brand Behind Every Call

Voice remains one of the most direct ways for businesses to connect with customers.

Branded Caller ID adds another layer of identity and recognition to that experience, helping your organization establish who is calling before the conversation even begins.

Threshold Communications can help you evaluate where Branded Caller ID fits within your outbound calling strategy, identify the business numbers that should be enrolled, and guide you through the onboarding and provisioning process.

Whether your organization is focused on customer service, sales outreach, appointment reminders, account management, or other high-value communications, BCID can help create a more recognizable and professional calling experience.
